NBA 2K Playgrounds 2, which should have arrived on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC in May of this year, now it is officially launching on October 16.

It turns out that this delay was due to the fact that developer Sabre Interactive has finalized a publishing agreement with 2K - so the game name is "2K" now. This is what Sabre CEO Matthew Karch said, is a very positive deal for the game. “The most fundamental change is that it has been improved in every aspect and every facet,” he told GameSpot. “Overall, thanks to our cooperation with 2K, this is the game we wanted to make, if we can get this in the first round. This will be an ideal way to launch the franchise.”

The partnership allows Sabre Interactive to make use of 2K's license, including music tracks and former NBA player likenesses that did not previously appear in the game. This also allows the team to stay in close contact with Visual Concepts, the 2K studio that is currently developing NBA 2K19. This gives Sabre the opportunity to get key feedback when developing Playgrounds 2.

As for the new content in the sequel, Playgrounds 2 features improved dribbling and rebounding, new courts and players, and signature moves that make big-name NBA players feel unique. Perhaps most importantly, it also includes a four-player online multiplayer game with dedicated servers.

"One of the main problems we encountered in the [First] game was that the online game suffered a considerable delay," Karch added. “We implemented a dedicated server solution to eliminate that issue."
